RP is about describing what your character does and says, using some sort of punctuation to distinguish between the two. Since we already IM, half the job is already done. Now all you have to do is add your actions.
There's different ways to do this, and it's a personal preference. For example, here's three different ways to convey an action and a quote in an RP:
Ex. 1 - Using stars (*) to frame your actions/ double quotes for OOC:
[3:40] Blue Myanamotu: *looking at Roxie scornfully* Hey Roxie-san, you're drunk again? Go make yourself useful and find my assassin.
((I actually love Roxie))
Ex. 2 - Using quotes to frame your quotes:
[3:40] Blue Myanamotu: Looking over at Roxie scornfully, she sneers "Hey Roxie-san, you're drunk again? Go make yourself useful and find my assassin."
((OOC: No, seriously, I do love Roxie))
Ex. 3 - Using "/me" to start an action (type this in IM and you'll see what it does):
[3:40] Blue Myanamotu: /me looks over at Roxie scornfully. "Hey Roxie-san, you're drunk again? Go make yourself useful and find my assassin."
((OOC: Luv ya Roxie! Roxie rocks!))
**Please don't get hung up AT ALL on RP punctuation. As long as people understand what you say and do, than that's all that matters.

You can also do a combination of several types of punctuation as well:
Ex. 4:
[3:42] Roxie Elephas: /me scowls at Blue "I would watch your back if I were you, Renjaa Kumicho." *holds her katana hilt and marches out of the Noodlehouse.* The Renjai have many enemies.

For ADVANCED RPers, enhance your RP by writing what you are thinking, feeling and a little background on where you are coming from. Details bring more enjoyment to the RP and gives people a better sense of your character. This is called Para RP style.
**Note: When typing large pieces, try to be considerate to the other RPer by entering blocks of 1-2 sentences instead of just the entire RP post at one go. Otherwise, the other RPer will think you're off cybering on another IM!
Ex 5 - Para RP:
[3:43] Blue Myanamotu: Since they were in a crowded tavern, Blue didn't REALLY want to say what she actually thought of her Gogyou rival Roxie. It'd be unladylike.
[3:44] Blue Myanamotu: Instead, she quietly sipped her green tea, playing with the bandage on her wrist. Her wounds from the assassin were more grevious than she had let on.
[3:45] Blue Myanamotu: However, she would be damned if she would ever let the Gogyou know the extent of her wounds. In fact, she suspected that Roxie was actually the hiring party for Blue's attack.
[3:46] Blue Myanamotu: /me looking up at the waiter, she cleared her throat. "Ahem." she said, tapping the cup. "Excuse me sir, but may I please have more tea?"
[3:47] Blue Myanamotu: She couldn't help but have a huge sappy grin on her face as the cute hunk of adorable ninja walked over and poured her cup. "Thank you," she replied, taking a sip and wondering how many ryu it would take to get the guy to give her a lap dance.
[3:48] Blue Myanamotu: /me blushed furiously as she continued to stare at his abs, thinking: It's good to be kumicho!
